Obituary of Daniel Dee Gustafson

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Daniel D. Gustafson passed away at home and surrounded by his loved ones on June 21, 2016. He was 64 years old. Daniel was born on July 20, 1951 to his parents Ruth and Harold Gustafson, in Vancouver, Washington. A Washougal High School graduate, Dan started in the construction industry and worked on many large projects including Bonneville Dam building the 2nd Powerhouse, WSU-Vancouver, and the Gas Fired Power Plant. He would start a job as a laborer and within weeks he would be supervisor. He was a member of Cape Horn American Legion Post#127 and Laborers Union #22 of Vancouver. He spent many years guiding hunters in search of large game, with his beloved hound dogs, and hunted bear for the DNR. He was an avid fisherman and an expert at catching salmon and steelhead along the Washougal and Columbia rivers. Dan eventually started his own rock quarry business, and became the largest supplier of decorative basalt in the Northwest. Daniel loved sports and was a huge Mariner's fan. He coached little league teams and built the baseball field at Cape Horn-Skye school. Some of his players went on to play in the major leagues. Most of all, he loved his family. Dan was a very generous person who wanted to remain anonymous for his deeds. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Jan; his three daughters: Angela (husband Chris) Hamilton, Breianne (husband Jeremy) Miller, and Meagan (husband Chris) Follett; his son Ryan Follett; 6 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter; his brother Mark, and his two sisters, Sherry and Robin, as well as his extended family brother Oliver Brigham (wife Connie), godson Alger, goddaughters Angelica (husband Chris), Misty and Tabitha. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter Elizabeth Follett. There will be private funeral services at the families request. A celebration of life gathering will take place on July 9th, 2016, 4PM, at the Cape Horn American Legion Post #127 - 10221 Washougal River Road. Brown's Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. To sign the online guestbook, please visit www.brownsfh.com
