James Donald Sells Obituary

James “Jim” Donald Sells peacefully passed away with his family by his side at his home in Camas on Wednesday, November 24, 2025. Born on December 17, 1933 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to William Jennings Bryan Sells and Oma (Woods) Sells; Jim was 91 years old.


A graduate of Warrenton High School in Warrenton, Oregon; Jim proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later graduated with his B.A. Degree and Master’s Degree from Portland State University. He met the love of his life Donna Lynne Pyles and together were blessed with three children. Jim loved woodworking and was a founding member of the Portland Saturday Market. He enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening at home.


Jim is survived by his daughters Heidi Curley (Mark Newberry) and Gretchen (Tye) Brown; grandchildren Jessica (Jeff) Boatwright; Emily Curley, Grace (Brady Reid), Makena Newberry, Olivia Newberry, Elle Brown, and Kaden Brown. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty years Donna Sells in 2016 and their loving son James Bryan Sells in 1977.


There will be a graveside service with military honors on Thursday, December 11th at 10:30 am at Willamette National Cemetery: 11800 SE Mt. Scott Boulevard Portland, OR 97086. Brown’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
