Dean Ray Thiery was born to Clarence and Judy in Aberdeen, South Dakota on February 5, 1969. He passed away on January 13, 2026 while in hospice in Vancouver WA.

Dean attended school in Kulm, North Dakota until his graduation from high school in 1987. He attended the University of Jamestown with a full football scholarship where he played center on the offensive line. A ankle injury during his second semester led him to transfer to Rasmussen College in Bismark, North Dakota where he graduated with a business degree.

He went on to become a respected member of the mortgage banking community, helping families navigate the complex housing loan process with grace while wearing his signature sports-themed ties. He served on many boards throughout his career, attended conferences, and made lasting friendships.

In October 2019, Dean left banking to reside with his soon-to-be wife Olivia in Aberdeen South Dakota. He decided to return to school to study coaching and earned a degree from Northern State University in 2020. He had a work ethic that was truly admirable. Dean was happiest when cheering for his beloved Vikings on Sunday, taking his family to sporting events, and settling in to watch a family movie. He was always ready to start a pool for March Madness, and send flowers to his bride, Olivia Kastengren-Thiery. His cheerful attitude and bring smile will be dearly missed. Dean taught everyone who was lucky enough to know him that it was never too late to pursue your passion, expand your love to another family, and follow that love to a new state.

He leaves behind his mother Judy, siblings: Lynette, Kyle (Teresa) wife Olivia, children: Danae (Charlie), Taryn (Rob) Samantha, Stetson (Rylee), Jack, and Mattie, and grandchildren: Josie, Maye, and a baby boy on the way. He is preceded in death by his father Clarence, brother Jim, and his grandparents.
