Lawrence Asao Ogawa Obituary

Lawrence Ogawa, age 83, passed away on February 18th, 2026, in Vancouver, Washington. He was born on June 26th, 1942, in Wahiawa, Hawai‘i, where his life began among the traditions and spirit of the islands.

Lawrence lived a long and meaningful life marked by quiet strength, humility, and deep devotion to his family. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed aboard the USS Inflict as an Electronics Technician (Radar), Second Class (ETR2).

After completing his military service, Lawrence pursued higher education at the University of Hawai‘i, earning a degree in electrical engineering—a foundation that shaped his long and respected career in public service.

Following his studies, Lawrence continued to serve his country through civil service with the 62nd Civil Engineering Squadron. Through dedication, skill, and leadership, he rose to the position of Deputy Base Civil Engineer, retiring after a distinguished career marked by integrity and steadfast commitment.

In 1980, Lawrence married Susan, the love of his life. Together they built a warm and loving family. Susan passed away in 2017, and Lawrence carried her memory and devotion with him always.

After retiring, Lawrence embraced the joys of life with calm appreciation. He loved spending days out on the golf course, enjoying both the game and the companionship it brought. He also looked forward to trips to Las Vegas, where he delighted in playing blackjack and sharing time with friends and family.

Lawrence will be remembered for his gentle presence, his generosity, and the countless ways he supported the people he loved. His memory remains a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his son Derrick, his daughter Jennifer, his daughter in law Melissa, his granddaughters Ava and Maddie, and his sister Doris. His family finds comfort knowing he is now reunited with his beloved Susan.
