Henrik “Pete” Petersen Porter, MD
Henrik “Pete” Petersen Porter, a longtime resident of Camas, WA, died at his home on March 12, 2026, at the age of 91. He was a distinguished gastroenterologist and clinical researcher whose career spanned four decades in the Pacific Northwest.
Dr. Porter graduated from Bowdoin College, the Cornell Medical College, and was a Chief Resident at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Washington in Seattle and subsequently served a tour of duty with a MASH unit in Korea. He carried out medical research at the University of Washington and the Seattle VA Medical Center, with articles appearing in the New England Journal of Medicine. In 1970, he joined the staff at Bess Kaiser Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, and practiced with Kaiser Permanente for 27 years.
Pete also was a president of the Board of Directors of the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology and was deeply involved in preservation efforts within the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area near the Salmon River. He is survived by his sister Susan Porter Walker (Earl), and his brother, Robert W. Porter III (Debra).
