Obituary of Charles Baker

Charles "Elroy" Baker of Washougal passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, surrounded by family. Elroy was born in Brown's Valley, Minn., on Jan. 2, 1920. Elroy married Bernice Fonder in December 1943. Elroy was a farmer in Minnesota and also worked in implement stores in Minnesota and South Dakota. Elroy and his family moved to Washougal in 1966. Elroy worked at Alco in Vancouver, then started his own small engine business called "Baker's Power Equipment," with son Gene. Elroy sold the business in 1984, and retired. Elroy later started repairing small engine equipment for family and friends until his death. Elroy was preceded in death by wife Bernice, sister Dorothy and brother Howard. He is survived by daughter Charlotte (Lewis) Hevron of Camas, son Eugene Baker of Camas, son Keith (Carol) Baker of Washougal, sister Mildred Anderson of Lyle, WA, brother Robert of Hawley, MN, special friend Maxine Slatter of Washougal, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at 924 "K" St., in Washougal, from 1 to 4 p.m. Family and friends are encouraged to stop by and share stories/memories of Elroy. In memory of Elroy, please donate to the American Cancer Society or the Ray Hickey Hospice House. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
