Obituary of John Wolff

John Raymond Wolff passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at his home in Vancouver, Washington. Born on April 10, 1917 in Vallejo, California to Raymond and Anna (Zetterlund) Wolff; John was 94 years old. He met and married Dorothy Moore in 1945. He served in the US Army during the Occupation of Japan after World War II as part of the Headquarters 8th Army Information and Historical Service. In 1950 they moved to Napa, California with their three children, becoming members of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Napa and later charter members of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Napa, California. He spent his career of 31 years at Mare Island Shipyard in Vallejo, California. One of the highlights of his career was spent as Project Manager of the Polaris Submarine Program. He retired as Chief Estimator and Planner. After retiring, John and Dorothy moved full-time to Mendocino, California. They loved the Mendocino coast making many friends. They were members of the Mendocino Presbyterian Church and John was a member and President of Rotary International of Mendocino. John helped with the Mendocino Study Club Christmas Bazaar, volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. After nearly 50 years of marriage Dorothy passed away in 1994. Later John met and married Diana DeWees who passed away in 2009. John is survived by his children John "Jack" R. (Vivian) Wolff Jr. of Vallejo, California, Julie Wolff of Camas, Washington, Rosemary (John) Niukkanen of Fort Bragg, California; sister June Walter of Salem, Oregon; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. John had a zest for living and incomparable sense of humor. His kind spirit will live on in the hearts of those who met and knew him. The family thanks the staff of Bridgewood Assisted Living Facility, The Quarry Assisted Living Facility, and Hospice caregivers for their gentle kindness and consideration during his last days. Interment for John will be held at St. Helena Cemetery in St. Helena, California. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the charity of choice. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
