Lorraine Bowden Palumbo died November 15, 2006 of complications from a chronic heart condition. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on November 7, 1928 to Mary and Ambrose Bowden, and grew up in Seattle, Washington. Lorraine was married to Eugene Hasse in 1950, whose work resulted in many moves across the Midwest and West before they established roots in Southwest Washington, where they raised four children in Camas. Gene preceded her in death in 1988. Lorraine's interests included photography, travel, antiques, and interior design. In 1967, she helped establish the Camas-Washougal Progress Center, a school for children with severe mental disabilities. More recently, she volunteered as a tutor for beginning readers. Lorraine was a passionate advocate for humanitarian, environmental and other progressive causes. Lorraine became reacquainted with her high school sweetheart, Richard Palumbo in 1994. They married, and enjoyed a happy life together in southern Arizona, and Talent, Oregon. In addition to her husband, Lorraine's survivors include her four children, Carol Hasse, Jan Ferguson, Charles Hasse and Donna Cooper; two sisters, Joanne Pruitt and Rosemary Huey; and five grandchildren. A memorial service has been planned for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2 at Brown's Funeral Home, 410 NE Garfield in Camas. Contributions may be made to the Natural Resources Defense Council or the Save Darfur Coalition. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
