Obituary of Robert Rhode

Robert Alex Rhode passed away peacefully March 29, 2007 at the age of 85. Robert was born March 1, 1922, in Barnesville, Minnesota to Henry and Bennie Rhode. His family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1925 and to Camas in 1929. He graduated from Camas High School in 1941. He served as a Navy Machinist's Mate 3rd Class during WWII. After the Navy, he worked as a logger before starting his 35 year career as a machinist for Crown Zellerbach. He retired from Crown Zellerbach in 1978 to own and operate Beacon Rock Trailer Park. He retired again in 1981 and moved to Vancouver. When not busy helping raise his five children, Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, clam digging, and square dancing in his earlier years. In his later years, he enjoyed playing the organ, oil painting, metal detecting, and the penny slots at Lucky Eagle Casino. Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie, and five children Joan (Dennis) Huston, Linda (David) Macgregor, Robert (Margaret) Rhode Jr., Donald (Carol) Rhode, and Mary Rhode. He also had ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his father, mother, and six siblings. There will be a celebration of life service at 11 am on Tuesday, April 3rd at Brown's Funeral Home in Camas, with vault interment to follow at the Fern Prairie Cemetery in Camas. Viewing will be held on Monday from 10-5:00 pm at the chapel. Memorials in Robert's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
