Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James "Jim" Shefchek peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 06, 2007 at home. He was born in Vancouver on August 11, 1931 where he lived most of life. He lived in Portland for 15 years and Washougal for 17 years. He worked for Future Products (Con-Met) for 34 years and retired from Peco Manufacturing in 1996. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he loved to sing the old hymns. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and going outside. In his later years, he liked to garden, especially vegetable gardening, watching birds, and traveling. He started mowing lawns in the 90's mostly for widows whom he referred to as "his ladies." Mowing wasn't the most important thing though. He was a very good listener and was a man of few words. They all loved him and looked forward to his visits, and would often have treats waiting for him. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Deanna at home, his six children Robin Curry, Debbie (Larry) Bray, Teresa (Jim) Berry, Anita (Scott) Alexander, Jim Shefchek, Andy Shefchek, grandchildren Jordan and Julian Curry, Mike Bray, Sherrie Demer, Aaron and Ben Bray, Mandy (Paul) Rager, Allen Bray, Tiffany Shefchek, and Jennie Alexander, his wonderful great-grandchildren Bailey Bray, Paul and Aurora Rager, and Olivia Mateo, brother Bob (Delores) Shefchek, and other family members JJ, Scott and Melissa Berry, Stephanie Nicole Rager, Ruth Shefchek, Anne Ross, MaryAnne and Miriam Shefchek and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Karen Louise (1959), brothers John, Joe, Carl, Ed, and Bill, sisters Julia Fisher, Celia Dunbar, Minnie Sayers, and Mary James. There will be a celebration of life service for Jim on Sunday, June 10th at 1:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Vancouver. Memorials in Jim's name may be made to the church or to Hospice SW. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
