Obituary of Larry Simms

Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Larry Wayne Simms, loved and respected husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2007 in Vancouver at the age of 64. Born on October 6, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, Larry moved to Washougal in 1950. Upon graduating from Washougal High School in 1961, Larry attended Clark College. He then voluntarily and proudly enlisted himself in the US Army during the Vietnam War, working as a microwave radio equipment repairman. After the war, he worked for Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill in Camas before taking a job with the Local #48 I.B.E.W. and then the Bonneville Power Administration where he was set to retire later this year. He was a volunteer for the Silver Star Search and Rescue, and for the Fire Department and EMT Units. Larry also was a member of the Camas Moose Lodge L.O.O.M. #1042, and a member of the American Legion Cape Horn Post #122. He enjoyed spending time outside, riding his motorcycle, yard work, chopping wood, and barbequing with friends and family. He was a man with great wisdom and knowledge. Many of the people who knew him came to him for advice on anything from how to raise kids, or how to fix a lawn mower. He seemed to know a little about everything, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Larry Simms was a family man through and through. We look forward to the day when we will all be together once again and we thank him for the memories that will get us through until then. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Tina, his daughters Kelly (Phil) Ault of St. Helens, Oregon, and Traci Simms of Washougal, sons Erik Simms, Brian Simms, and Brandon Hubbard all of Washougal, brothers Alvin Simms of Walla Walla, Washington, and Danny Simms of Camas, sister Kathleen Gibson, mother-in-law Barbara L. Conner of Camas, seven grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jess and Edith Simms. There will be a Celebration of Life Service with military honors for Larry on Friday, June 15th at 1:00 pm at Gateway Community Church in Washougal. Viewing will be on Thursday from 10-5:00 pm at Brown's Funeral Home in Camas. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry's memory may be made to the American Legion Cape Horn Post #122. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
