Obituary of Roland Townsend

Roland "Henry" Townsend peacefully passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at his home in Camas. Born on January 23, 1930 to Sidney and Clara (Mills) Townsend; Henry was 81 years old. A lifetime Camas resident, Henry graduated from the original Union High School in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War and after the war joined the Clark County Teamsters Local #58 of Vancouver. Eventually Henry opened up Townsend Landscaping and spent the next several decades landscaping homes and businesses throughout Clark County. He also was a former employee for Haag and Shaw Inc. and was a member of the Fourth Plain Church of the Nazarene in Vancouver and former President of the Portland Artists Club. Henry enjoyed painting, car collecting, and spending time with his family and friends. His infectious smile and personality could brighten anyone's day and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Henry is survived by his loving wife of fourteen years Bebe at home; sons Rick Townsend of Camas, Michael Townsend of Vancouver, Tracy Townsend of Camas; daughters Terri (Stacy) Townsend of Vancouver and LuEllen Townsend of Vancouver; step-sons Tyson Ferguson of Vancouver, and Jay Ferguson of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers Warren Townsend of Camas, Gene Townsend of Vancouver, and Glenn Townsend of Camas; sisters Louise Berg of Brush Prairie and Carol Tourville of California; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years Beverly Yvonne Townsend in 1992. There will be a celebration of life service for Henry on Monday, August 15th at 1:00 pm at Grace Foursquare Church: 717 Southeast Everett Road; Camas, WA 98607 (360) 834-6336. Vault interment with full military honors will follow at the Camas Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Saturday, August 13th 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Brown's Funeral Home: 410 NE Garfield Street; Camas, WA 98607. Memorials in Henry's honor may be made at any Bank of America Branch under the Henry Townsend Memorial Fund. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
