Obituary of Loren Livingstone Brooks

Loren Livingstone Brooks of Washougal passed away on March 27, 2015 at the age of 71 years from heart failure. In our sorrow, we are thankful for the life he lived, and that he is now with God who he loves so dearly. He was born on May 7, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to his parents Tasker and Lorena Brooks. He lived a full and adventurous life hunting, rockhounding, growing and selling Christmas trees, window washing, buying and selling wood stoves, traveling to Finland and Israel, and sharing the Gospel with many people through songs, words, and actions. He was a minister of Open Bible Ministries, and worshiped with the Finnish Messiah Lutheran Church of Portland. Loren loved the outdoors and explored many logging roads to find the best places to find rocks, huckleberries, and animal tracks. His generosity, affection, resourcefulness, spontaneity, love for nature, and commitment to God is an inspiration to all. Loren is survived by his loving and beautiful Finnish wife Pirjo. He is also survived by his 4 children and their families: Benjamin and Joleen Brooks of Vancouver, WA; Samuel Brooks of Hilo, HI; David and Hanna Heddy of Portland, OR, and Daniel and Elina Brooks of Espoo, Finland. There are 5 grandchildren: Kyla, Ezra, Nathan, Annika, Iris, and one more on the way. Loren is also survived by his brother Ben Brooks of Tombstone, Arizona and his sister Colleen Vaughan of Washougal, as well as numerous beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. A graveside service for the family will be held at Fern Prairie Cemetery in Camas on Friday, April 3, 2015. A separate celebration of Loren’s life will take place at Portland Open Bible Church on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 5 PM. All who knew and loved him are welcome to this event.
