Obituary of Beverly MacDonald

Beverly Constance MacDonald peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at her home in Washougal. Born on February 4, 1928 in Helena, Montana to Gordon Hartley and Nettie Bertine (Thornton) Torrey; Beverly was 84 years old. A lifetime Clark County resident, Beverly was a graduate of Vancouver High School in 1946 and attended Clark College, while there she was a member of the Mazama Club where she hiked Mt. Hood. Upon graduation she was employed by the Columbian Newspaper and became a mentor with the National Scholastic Press Association. She worked as a teacher and as an assistant and was a charter member of the Clark County Head Start Program for 40 years. She later returned to Head Start by the way of the Foster Grandparent Program. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal, as a Camas-Washougal community resident she gave to her communities by volunteering in various organizations. In 2009 she took complete retirement and spent the rest of her day's journaling, gardening walking to the store and loving her family. Beverly is survived by her loving children Patrick (Debi) MacDonald of Camas, Kent (Stephanie) MacDonald of Washougal, and Scott (Bernice) MacDonald of Orville, California; the children's father Duncan MacDonald of Warrenton, Oregon; sister Phyllis Earley of Eugene, Oregon; brothers Gordon Torrey of Sammamish, Washington and Richard Torrey of Seattle, Washington; nine grandchildren ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of Beverly's life on Saturday, July 14th at 11:00 am at Gateway Community Church in Washougal. Private inurnment will be held at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Memorials in Beverly's honor may be sent the Clark County Head Start Program. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
