Obituary of Howard Charles Hoxsie

Please share a memory of Howard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Howard Charles Hoxsie was a man with a unique ability to see beyond appearances and find friends everywhere. We was open and generous with his time and his attention, and he will be missed by the many, many hearts he touched. Howard was born to C. Ward and Helen Hoxsie January 5, 1955. He grew up on the Little Washougal River where he learned the values of loyalty and dedication to family, caring for those in need of his help, and the rewards of hard work. Howard shared a loving and admiring relationship with his parents, and had the great good fortune to have two loving and caring sisters, who were his strength and comfort in his final months as he ultimately lost his battle to cancer, June 6, 2015. Howard graduated from Washougal High School in 1973, where he was active in National Honor Society, the High-Q team, year book, and wrestling. While in high school Howard was active in the Vancouver Chapter of DeMolay serving as Master Councilor and later was elected State Senior Councilor. He moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington and lived there for the rest of his life. Always a big dreamer, Howard’s career aspirations ranged from being a pharmacist, to trading on the Chicago Futures Exchange, to writing the next great American novel. He started his work life as a pharmacy technician at the University of Washington Hospital. His work changed as he became involved in systems administration for the pharmacy’s mainframe computer system. He later worked in this capacity for Weyerhaeuser, and for Nordstrom Catalog Services. Howard also ran his own business, operating Howard’s Kitchen which specialized in gluten free baked goods. In 1997 Howard embarked on the adventures of fatherhood, and his daughter Gloria was truly the light of his life. They shared their love of cooking, telling stories, and “Game of Thrones.” He was a devoted and loving father, and knew he had a “wonderful daughter.” His hobbies included a love of history, swimming, scuba diving, opera, travel, cooking and baking. He delighted in spending time with family and friends, as well as his feline family. Howard was an active member of the University Christian Church in Seattle where the open and affirming congregation cherished him as he cherished them, and he was a member of the North Bank Masonic Lodge in Washougal. Howard is preceded in death by his parents and his great niece Jolee Scott. He leaves behind his daughter Gloria Hoxsie of Seattle, his sisters Marcia Haukaas, and Mary Helland of Washougal, and cousins, nieces and nephew, as well as many dear friends. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday June 22, at 2:oo p.m. at University Christian Church in Seattle: 4731 15th Ave NE, Seattle WA 98105. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to University Christian Church Technology Fund, or the American Civil Liberties Union.
