Doug, I'm so glad that I recently had the opportunity to meet your charming father. I could tell in the short time we spoke that he was a funny and caring person. You've been lucky to have had him as the leader of your family. The Zacks are all praying for you and your family at this sorrowful time.

I first new Dave while attending the second grade at Hathaway school. I was a midterm attendee. During the recess, all the boys jumped me and after awhile backed away except for Dave and we faced off with each other with fists raised but neither of us hit one another. Rescued by miss Riggs and we returned to the room with tears in our eyes. I guess Dave didn't like the fact that we both had the same names. Anyway we eventually became friends and fellow athletes he in the backfield and my position as
center on the football team of1947. I saw the excellent wood carving that Dave did while attending a show in Portland many years ago. He was a true artist and a great friend.

Dear Family,
As I prepare my thoughts about what to share about Dave...there are many that cross my mind and heart.
Dave was such a prominent personality in our town. He could be seen at sports events, the store, outdoors on lakes and hunting in the woods in Klickitat.
May God continue to give you all comfort, peace and assurance that he rests easy in the arms of Jesus.
Love you all,
Mary LaFrance

Dave was one of my favorite teachers. He made wood shop challenging and also fun. We also had fun times in his class, like the time that we put Vi Medoc car up on blocks in the parking lot outside shop class and then all met there to watch her trying to leave after school. Oh wait, I guess we really didn't tell Dave about it so he was wondering why all of us were back in shop at the end of the day. Wish I could be there for the services and share in a celebration of Dave's life.

Dave, my dear brother-in-law, was truly a special person. He was one of the kindest persons I met and I will remember him fondly. Several of his carvings in our house will always remind us of his gentle spirit and his artistic talent.

Dave was a dear friend and compatriot and an inspiration to me. We have belonged to the Feather and Quill Carvers in Vancouver since the early 80's and displayed our work at the Portland NW Sportsman show together every year since that time. My condolences go out to all family members and friends who will miss his good nature, talent, and active participation in the Portland/Vancouver Wood carving community. I speak for all our club members and members of other Carving groups and clubs to which he gave his time and talents.... Rest in Peace good buddy.
