William Howard passed away Sept. 8, 2007. He was 86. A Camas, WA resident since 1948, William was born April 13, 1921, in Gervais, OR. William served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in Okinawa, Japan China, San Diego, and Port Wyneme. He was very friendly. To him, there were no strangers; he greeted everyone with a nice smile. William retired a painter for Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill, where he had worked for 34 years. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Thelma, at home; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Michael Carmichael and Nancy Howard, all of Camas, WA; son, Don Howard, of Camas, WA; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Scott Howard, in 1988. William enjoyed the family beach home in Ocean Park, WA. He also liked growing and sharing his garden with family and friends. A graveside service will be held Wed., Sept. 12, 2007, 1:00pm, at the Camas Cemetery, with the Reverend Ruth Mathis officiating. Vault interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Ray Hickey Hospice House, 2112 E Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98661.
