DAD
(Michael Hugh Gannon)
I, Rick Parker, was five years of age when the man that would become known as “DAD” came into my life. Being a step-dad can be a difficult chore. My behavior at times, only added to the difficulty, and yet “DAD” always rose to the challenge. With a sentimental heart, a caring spirit, and a work ethic beyond question, he guided me into the man that I would become. He set the example, like very few could, overcoming the obstacles that can present themselves in the face of a young boy that can test one’s patience.
He was a:
“Big” kid when the opportunity arose, standing down a young boy’s dinosaur in the front yard.
He:
“Empowered” a boy of 13 to buy his own lawn mower and start a very lucrative business of his own.
He was a:
“Teacher” of lessons, when it came to the need of that same young boy to stand up to and defend one’s self in the face of a bully.
He was a:
“Trusted” and excited advisor, when a 16 year old young man was in search of his first car.
He stood as an:
“Example” to a young man, that would marry, raise a family of his own, and build a very successful career.
He was:
“Remarkable” to the very end in terms of his loving and selfless care for my MOM. She was the love of his life and he devoted himself to her care through the years.
I could have been raised and guided by no “BETTER” man. To Michael Hugh Gannon, I give you my love, admiration and sincere, heartfelt thanks. You were everything that I needed, when I needed so very much. You were my “DAD” and a far “BETTER” dad than I could have ever wished for.
