Peter Joseph Fertello was born October 11, 1927 in Camas, WA. to Pete & Carmella Zollo Fertello. He was 93 years old when he passed January 2, 2021. He graduated from Camas High School. He joined the Navy with his good friends Bob Rodgers & Ken Gray. All three of them attended basic training together and served on the USS Sarasota together. Peter was a Gunner’s Mate Third class. The three friends saw action in the Pacific & places like Okinawa, the Philippines & Iwo Jima. They all came home safe. Peter went to George Fox college for a bachelor in ministry 1951, becoming youth pastor of Newberg Friends Church in Newberg, Or. He worked some time at the Camas Crown Zellerbach paper mill, went into construction, and worked at Cascade Pools in Portland. Peter was a hard worker at whatever he did. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, traveling and visiting with family & friends In his later years he started making pens & pencils at his nephew's home in Washougal, and gave sets to many people he knew and met. In 2017 he reconnected with the love of his life Shirley Cadd. Although their time together was short, Pete & Shirley enjoyed their time together going to the ocean, visiting friends at Camas VFW, Columbia Ridge, DQ for ice cream, visiting family & friends. Peter passed away in Newberg with his new family beside him during this pandemic. Pete & Mary Fertello of Camas, Wa., Carmella Zollo & George Hulett of Salem, Or. sister Evelyn Mason and half brother David “Froggy” Fertello preceded Peter in death. He is also survived by the love of his life Shirley, her daughters Laurie Ross & Dan Van Dyke, Debra & Alan Martell, and Shelly Carson & granddaughter Alexis & Brian Milbourn all of Newberg, Or Peter is also survived by sons Mark & Kathy Fertello Brier, WA., Paul & Doreen Fertello McMinnville, Or, John & Sarah Fertello McMinnville and daughter Laurie Fertello Stanwood, Wa, as well as Nieces Pam & Jim Clark Washougal, WA. , Melody & Jack Frach Westport, Or., and Nephew Lyle & SonHui Mason Westport, Or. 4 Great Nieces, 3 Great Nephews, 9 Great, Great Nieces, 1 Great Great Nephew & 1 Great, Great, Great Niece. Lots of friends & family will miss his caring, smiling face and his stories of his time he served his country.
