Obituary of Ronald Duane Reude

Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ron Reude, age 87, of Washougal, Washington passed away at home on September 28th, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Leola, South Dakota, and after traveling west his parents acquired the family farm in the Cape Horn area of Skamania County. He attended Cape Horn School and enjoyed fishing in Canyon Creek during recess. He was also a Ridge Runner, and he would run all the way to work in Camas from the farm in Skamania County! He served in the Korean War, and upon returning home he married the love of his life, Hazel Mae Ecoff. He worked at the Camas Paper Mill for 40 plus years, and started two successful businesses with his wife. He returned to the Cape Horn area to raise his family and purchase the Cape Horn school where he was once a student. He converted the school into a house and started raising pigs. He raised a large herd of pigs and enjoyed the farm life. He also enjoyed his friends and threw many parties in the school gymnasium. His kids loved having their own school with a bell tower, stage, and gymnasium. He purchased more animals from the local auction for his farm. One purchase was a retired rodeo horse that ended up being pregnant when he purchased her. The kids were thrilled and we ended up with two horses for the price of one. Dad was always getting that good deal, and the animals were no exception. The family and farm continued to grow and so he purchased his parents farm on Mabee Mines Rd. He lived, farmed, raised his family, along with pigs, cattle, rabbits, horses, chickens, cats, dogs, and many other four legged creatures. Working and playing hard was his way of life! He loved hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends, and he spent many years doing just that in the Blue Mountains of Washington. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge 1042, Mt. Pleasant and Washougal Grange, and a charter member of the Washougal Eagles #4390, and also the Fern Prairie Grange #866. He was also a member of the AWPPW in Camas and lived his life to the fullest helping the community. Ron had a personality that was bigger than life and he enjoyed a good joke. He loved to spend time with his friends dancing and just having a good time. He enjoyed dancing at a place called the Wagon Wheel where he met Hazel, and he loved to play pool. He was pretty good at it too, and he could run a table with the best of them. Some of his favorite hangouts were the Show Boat and the Turf. Another place that held a special place in his heart was the Blue Mountains. He loved hunting and camping there. He especially loved the amazing view from Table Rock on cool crisp fall mornings. Ron is survived by his adoring wife Hazel Mae after 64 years of marriage, daughters Cheryl Ann Kearns (partner Rusty), Shannon Elaine Nickelsen (spouse Eric), Pamela Kay Leonard (spouse Kris), and son Danny Duane Reude (spouse Diane); brother, Rick Reude of Washougal, Washington; as well as 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bruce Reude, Terry Reude; sister, Judy Fullbright; grandson, Jacob Ronald Kearns. Brown's Funeral Home is handling the burial arrangements with a family and friends funeral and military internment followed by a Celebration of Life at the Eagles.
