Obituary of Robert Curtis Holloway

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Curtis Holloway was born May 7, 1927 in Tallassee, AL and passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024 in Vancouver, WA.   Robert was charming and lovable, full of integrity, wit and wisdom.   He loved the Oregon Coast and cruising around the world. He was content with the simple, and even on his adventures, found the greatest enjoyment in chatting and sharing stories with others. His perfect day was walking on the beach with his wife of 57 years, Dottie. His charm never knew a stranger, and his sincerity, uplifting spirit, wisdom, and guidance were plentiful and generously shared.   He had the sharpest mind and memory for details, which made him the very best storyteller.   Robert was born to Julian and Mary Holloway, and grew up on his family farm in Tallassee, then later moved to Wynne, Arkansas. He served in the US Navy, and graduated from the University of Alabama, where he played tenor saxophone in the Million Dollar Band and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was never too proud to shed a tear while watching performances by the Million Dollar Band or the singing of the National Anthem (but only if the performer sang it straight).   As a young adult, he moved to Portland, OR where he met his wife, Dorothy Symes Holloway, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. They had two children together, Curt and Glenna. Robert went on to serve as a deacon, trustee, and ruling elder within the Presbyterian Church. He was very involved in the Oregon Trucking Association and worked for Automotive Equipment Company selling Peterbilt and Mack Trucks, McCracken Motor Freight, and Speed’s Towing. Bob was a life member of Friendship Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite, as well as a member of the Al Kader Shrine.   Bob loved lemony desserts and Bama Football. He will be remembered by his library of quips and sayings: “When I kick the bucket…,” “Ladies go first,” “I’m ___ years old and I still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up!” and his New Year’s Resolution every year: “Not to smoke. I’ve never smoked a day in my life, and I don’t plan to start now.”    He is survived by his son Robert Curtis Jr. (Kathy), daughter Glenna Sequeira (Jim), grandchildren Tyler, Megan, Connor, Caitlin, and Chris, and four great-grandchildren.   Memorial service for Bob will be held at Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church 5441 SE Belmont St., Portland, OR 97215 on Friday, June 28 th  at 4:00pm. Private inurnment will be held at Willamette National Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church's General Ministries fund are appreciated.   Roll Tide!
