Margaret Schwab Guldseth, died March 23, 2014 at the age of 78, while residing at Glenwood Place Senior Living in Vancouver, WA. Her life was celebrated Thursday, March 27th, 2014 at Saint Anne's Episcopal Church in Washougal, WA. Arrangements were provided by Brown's Funeral Home in Camas, WA. Margaret was born on October 23, 1935 in Cambridge, MA, to Sarah Bradley Schwab & Norman von Post Schwab. She graduated from Mount Kisco High school in Mount Kisco, NY. and earned her BA with honors in Music from Bryn Mawr College. For twelve years after graduating, she traveled across this country, Britain, Australia and Papua-New Guinea volunteering her time and talents with the international program of Moral Re-Armament Margaret married Mark Olaf Guldseth, an electrical contractor, on June 29, 1968. From their first home on Mackinac Island, MI, they moved to Phoenix, AZ., and to Homer, Alaska in 1976. Margaret was an active member of the Homer community where she was involved in Homemakers, Seaside Singers, The L/V Ark, Vista Volunteers, Head Start and Hospital Auxiliary. She was a devoted member of Homer United Methodist Church, faithfully serving in many capacities throughout her years there. In 1993 she was named Citizen of the Year by the Homer Chamber of Commerce. Margaret is survived by daughter & son-in-law Ellen and Rick Heckert, and grandchildren Emma, Margaret & Nathanael Heckert, all of El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain. Other survivors include: brother and sister-in-Law John Christopher & Judy Schwab of New Braunfels, TX; sister Edith Schwab of Vancouver, WA, sister and brother-in-law Kate & Bill McLaughry of Centennial, CO, and sister & brother-in-law Irene & Gary Cowley of Inglewood, CA, and sister-in-law Anne Schwab of Tucson. She was preceded in death by her husband Mark Guldseth, parents Sally & Norman Schwab, and brother Peter Schwab. Margaret was a gentle, kind and loving wife, mother, sister and friend, who loved music, sewing, singing, making friends and helping others. She was always positive and faced hardship without complaint. She donated not only her life but her heart to those around her and was cherished by those who knew her.
