Harold C. Samsel was born on June 2, 1930 in Kennewick, WA. He lived in Vancouver, WA and moved to Skamania Co. in 1937. He attended school in Skamania and Stevenson, and as a youth, worked on several Ranches and Farms. He entered the U.S. Army at age 17. He served 7yrs. and 20 days. He served in Korea in 1950-1951. He was attached to the 1st Marines at the Chosen Reservoir, and evacuated Hungnam Dec. 24, 1950. He was awarded several medals and citations such as the Bronze Star Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct, Japanese Occupation, U.N. Medal, Korean Campaign, American Defense, Korean, Pres,3 Battle Stars, and Combat Infantry Badge. Harold worked for 3 years for SP&S Railroad. He also worked as a logger, a mill worker, and as a bartender. He woked 27 1/2 years for the Corps of Engineers as a sandblaster, gardner, carptenter, and model maker. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, is Carson WA. He is survived by his son Kenneth of Camas, daughter, Laura Coe of Goldendale, and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Curtis and mother, Nina; his sister Janet; sister, Wanda; brother Leroy who was retired from the Army; brother Denzil who died ina North Korean Prison camp; and daughter Susan. In loving memory, you will be missed. There will be a graveside service at Willamette National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 18 at 10:30AM.
