Obituary of Jack Gilberg

Please share a memory of Jack to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After living a full life to the very end, Jack Donald Gilberg went to be with our Lord in Heaven on September 1, 2014 at the age of 92. Jack was born in Spokane, Washington and was the son of the late Gerald and Susan (Milner) Gilberg. His one sibling, Marvin Richard Gilberg, passed away in 2002. Athletics always played a big part of Jack's life. Jack was an All-City Basketball player at Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane, on the traveling team of the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle, a racquetball player at Club Oxford in Vancouver, and a proud member of the Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver for almost 60 years where he had multiple holes-in-one. After high school, Jack started college at Washington State University and was elected freshman class president of the fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. Jack went on to finish his Bachelor Degree in Physical Education from the University of Washington. While in Seattle, Jack was hired as a representative of a pharmaceutical company. His success with this position launched his career as a professional sales person with other companies in the chemical and pulp and paper industry. Jack was always a top performer in meeting his assigned quotas. Throughout his career, Jack was involved with many industry associations and held numerous positions including president of the International Brotherhood of Migratory Peddlers. While in Seattle, Jack met his future wife, Lorraine Rose (Fuhrer) Gilberg. They were wed at St. James Church in Seattle on September 1, 1956. For reasons of employment, Jack and Lorraine moved to Portland, Oregon and finally settled in Vancouver, Washington where Jack was to reside for the rest of his life. Jack will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father of his three children Jay, Kevin, and Tim, a loving father-in-law to his daughter-in-law, Monica, and a wonderful long-time friend of many. Many will also remember Jack as a life-time member of the Elks and a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church. Jack's favorite saying was "Do what is right, and you won't go wrong". There will be a Mass held at St. Joseph's Church Catholic Church at 10:00am on Tuesday, September 9th, 2014 in celebration of Jack's life with a reception to follow. Remembrances may be made to the children's therapy program at the Elks Lodge #823, 11605 Southeast McGillivary Boulevard, Vancouver, Washington, 98683.
