Please share a memory of Ainsley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ainsley Allen Kahealani Fullard-Leo died October 21, 2008, a day before his 77th birthday from pancreatic cancer. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and lived there most of his life until 2001, when he and his wife Betty became "snowbirds," spending the six summer months in Camas, and the winter months in their long-time home in Kailua, Hawaii. A true family man, of all his life accomplishments he was proudest of his two sons, Marcus who lives in Damascus, Oregon, and Matthew, a resident of Washougal. In addition, he was a doting "Oompah" to Marcus and Michel's four sons, Timothy (7), Gabriel (5), Noah (2 ¾), and Daniel (1), and to the two sons of Matthew and Nelly, Austin (3) and James (¾). Ainsley was born in Waikiki and spent his early years dreaming longingly of the surf while attending Punahou School. He joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War as an air traffic controller in the early 1950s. Air traffic control became his career for several years in Oakland and from 1958 to 1974 in Honolulu, until he retired at the age of 43. Then, he earned a business degree from Hawaii Pacific University, which served him well as he helped guide various family real estate investments for the rest of his life. The passion of his life with his real estate endeavors was the time Ainsley spent on one of the family properties, Palmyra Atoll, to which he had a deep spiritual connection. The family sold the 32 islets comprising Palmyra to the Nature Conservancy in 2000. Ainsley died in his Prune Hill home surrounded by his wife and sons, as the noon church bells were heard chiming in central Camas. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his brother Dudley, niece Vickie Lee and her son William (10), and nephews, Bryant and Gregory Fullard-Leo. Services will be held in Hawaii. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
