Sorry that it has taken this long to write... Still cant believe hes gone.Jake was a crazy, he was funny and in his own way charming, lovable, and always one of a kind! We will always miss Jake and remember him for his quick wit and his ability to make a joke out of everything. I knew Jake since was a kid working at Dairy Queen, I liked to give him a hard time something Jake would have never had done to someone else Listening to Eric Church, eating Jojo's from the corner store and drinking a coke. Thats the Jake I will always remember. With love to his family and friends. Sympathy Curtis, Mindi, and The kids

I was so very sorry to learn of the death of your beautiful son. I learned thru our son who is serving in the US Coast Guard and was aboard the Acushnet and participated in the search for the missing crew members. It just so happens our middle son is named Jacob and died at 16 years of age, 6 years ago on October 25. Our son Jed is serving in the coast guard and spent the 6 year anniversary of his brother's death searching for the crew. Very emotional for all of us to know what the families are going through. I am so very sorry for your loss and please know we keep you close in our hearts and minds. Our son was so hoping for a better outcome for your family and they gave it there all to try to help them. I can tell from Jake's picture he loved life and was a fun loving person. He will never be forgotten. My friend lives in Portland, Oregon and sent the clipping out of the newspaper to us since she new our son had been involved in the search and the many other connections. Thinking of you, Karen Cantrell

You must have been proud of the fine young man he became. From a mom to a mom, I could not imagine your pain. Please find comfort in the time you did have him on this earth. Although we don't always make sense of what happens, we will all be together again. God bless you and your family. My sympathy to you all. Kim Johnson

To Jake’s Family: I am writing this on behalf of Ian and Renee Wade. Ian went to school and graduated with Jake in 2004. He wants his family to know how sorry he is for your loss. I work for the Camas School District and worked at the high school when the kids were in attendance. I remember Jake as a quiet student with a ready smile. This tragedy is very close to my family as my Mother’s only brother Jack, lost his life in the Bering Sea when his barge sank. Life goes on and it’s the ones left behind that suffer the most. Please know you are in this family’s prayers and thoughts. We were blessed to have known Jake. If ever Ian or myself can be of any help or assistance we are only a phone call away. Again, please accept our deepest sympathy. Sincerely, Renee and Ian Wade

I would like to say that Jake was so full of energy and life when he was with us. His presence was truly special and I am sure he touched everyone that he met. I remember him for the way he could poke fun at me without being mean spirited or rude! In my memory that was his gift. He would always say funny things that coming from other people might have been harsh but coming from Jake with that mischievous smile it was always funny. To me Jake truly had that something extra, that special X-factor that made him someone that was so very special. Jake you will be missed! Sincerely, Brian Gilliland

Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, May looking back in memory will help comfort us tomorrow. May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand. Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. Shara, Ron and Family- Our Hearts go out to you, this whole ordeal is so tragic all around. We spent some time with Jake when he dated Katie and what impressed us the most was he had a hard work ethic. He took his job seriously and expected those around to do their part too. His lighter side was funny and mischievous and he was very good with Katie's son Kaden. We know he loved his mom and spoke of her in ways that you knew they were close. You raised a good son, one you can always be proud of, please know your friends at the mill are thinking of you.
