Richard Leroy Markum passed away on Friday, October 31, 2008 at his home in Vancouver. Born on February 19, 1938 in St. Joseph, Missouri, Richard was 70 years old. Richard was a veteran of the United States Marines. He worked as a licensed barber in Washington, Oregon, and California, and was also a journeyman butcher. He enjoyed camping, fishing, archery, and riding his motorcycles. Richard is survived by his daughter Monica Schlinkmeier of Vancouver, brothers Denny Strevel of Salem, Oregon, and Ed Moore of Pomona, California, sister Opal Curtis of Whittier, California, and one granddaughter Britny Schlinkmeier and two grandsons. There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Richard on Friday, November 7th at 2:00 pm at Brown's Funeral Home in Camas. Viewing will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Brown's Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver. Memorials in Richard's honor may be sent to the Evergreen High School Marching Band. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
