Obituary of Neil Taylor

Neil Wayne Taylor peacefully passed away at his home in Vancouver on January 30, 2009 at the age of 93. He was born in Hayfield, Iowa on July 20, 1915 to Parent and Parent, the second youngest of five.
Neil graduated from Hayfield High School and signed up to join the United States Navy before the World War II Draft. He served in the Navy in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was stationed on Adak Island in the Aleutian Chain and returned to Alaska after the war to seek new opportunities in the then Territory of Alaska. He married in 1951, owned and operated a marina in Auke Bay, Alaska, bought and sold boats and motorcycles, and was the local postmaster. In 1976 he and his wife sold their business and moved to Salem, Oregon where he could pursue his favorite year-round activity of golfing.
Neil is survived by his loving wife Helen Taylor of Vancouver, son Joseph Taylor of Juneau, Alaska, daughters Mary Jo Taylor of Seattle, Washington, Lisa Murphy of Duanesburg, New York, and Jennifer Legault of Portland, Oregon, and grandchildren Cianan Murphy and Emma Legault.
There will be no public service. Remembrances in Neil's name can be sent to Hospice Southwest of Vancouver.
