Arthur Walter Hooper passed away on June 6, 2009, at his home in Vancouver, WA. He was born on October 6, 1931, in Riverside, CA, and moved to Vancouver with his parents in 1945. Art joined the National Guard where he rose to the level of Sergeant. During his service he assisted with the Vanport Flood. He graduated from Vancouver High School and Clark College. While in college he worked at the cannery at night and attended classes during the day. In 1954 Art began working at Hood Sales in Portland, OR. He married Harriet Fryberger on October 7, 1955, and they purchased their first and only home where they have lived for 54 years. Together, they raised three children and watched their family and their home grow as Art continued the never-ending project of updating their home. During his career Art also worked for Porter Scarpelli Macaroni Co. and I.M. Distributing before retiring as a tooling manager at Tube Forging in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, clamming, gardening and photography and, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Art truly was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his father Colin Hooper; step father Leonard Wegner; brother Norman Brousseau; great-grandson Dashric Long; and son-in-law, Bill Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Harriet, and mother, Myrtle Wegner; children: Colynn Nelson and Arthur and wife Darcy Hooper of Vancouver, WA, and Dee Mara and husband Donald Gonser, of Brush Prairie, WA; grandchildren: Sara and husband Elwood Storm; Jacob, Angela, Rachel, and Dennis Hooper; and Deema, Derrick, and DJ Long; and great-grandchildren, Tristen, Ashton and Ulyssa. A memorial service will be held at New Life Christian Center, 701 N Garrison Rd, Vancouver, WA, 98664, at 10 am on Saturday, June 20, 2009. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to New Life Christian Center Building Fund or Missionary Program.
