Anice Janet Carlson peacefully passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver. Born on October 14, 1910 in Oak Harbor, Washington to Peter and Emma Komen, Anice was 99 years old. Throughout her life, Anice lived in Oak Harbor, Lynden, Sumas, Maxwelton Beach (Whidbey Island), Bellingham, Edmonds, Ferndale, Seattle, and most recently Vancouver. Anice married Al Carlson Sr. and worked as a beautician. Al passed away in 1954 and she never remarried. After Al's passing, she moved her beauty shop to her house and became a homemaker; raising her children and doing all of the housework. She never stopped working except to spend time with her family, including taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren until she no longer could. In her later years she also worked as a baker. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading the daily newspaper, and raising her family. She was very religious and never doubted her religion or beliefs. She found her strength through the Lord and attended Bible Study weekly, and read the Bible everyday. Anice is survived by her children Al Carlson and Sandy Carlson, grandchildren Whitney Carlson, Lacey Carlson, Cierra Carlson, Lezlie Costelli, Susan Morrin, David Carlson, and Mike Carlson, great-grandchildren Gabriella Lane, Laura Costelli, Maddie Costelli, Demi Morrin, Rylie Morrin, Joshua Morrin, Jack Carlson, Ruby Carlson, Cody Carlson, and Lilly Carlson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Albert Lee Carlson Sr., son Larry David Carlson, and siblings Tunis Komen, Ben Komen, Jake Komen, John Komen, Peter Komen, Gertrude Kirkham, and Theresa Bristol. There will be a private celebration of life service for Anice in Seattle, Washington. Vault interment will take place in Whidbey Island.
