Mabel Olena Johnson peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Lexington House in Vancouver, Washington. Mabel was 86 years old.
She was born on August 14, 1925 in Marshall County, South Dakota to Bert and Olga (Pederson) Skjonsberg. Raised on the prairie, she met and married Waldo Johnson in 1940. They had five children. A Vancouver resident since 1971, Mabel worked and retired as a dietician for the Vancouver VA Hospital. She will be remembered for her love of family, her passion for baking and gardening and her devout membership in the River's Edge Church in Fruit Valley, WA.
Mabel is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Roger) Nelson of Sisseton, South Dakota; sons Waldo (Carol) Johnson Jr. of Clinton, Minnesota, David (Loretta) Johnson of McMinnville, Oregon, and Mike (Carol) Johnson of Vancouver, WA; brother Orville (Norreko) Skjonsberg of San Diego, California; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years Waldo Johnson Sr. in 1977, daughter Ellen May, brothers Albert, Sylfred and Burton Skjonsberg.
There will be no public service. Mabel will be laid to rest beside her husband Waldo at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
