Robert T. (Bob) Hewitt, Jr. died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the age of 83, following a lengthy illness.
Bob was born October 22, 1926, in Wheeling, WV, and spent his childhood in Southeastern Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army in both WWII and Korea as a member of the 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. On May 5, 1952 he married Frances M. Forbes and in 1953 graduated from Ohio State University as a Chemical Engineer. After working for Union Carbide Corporation for 29 years, he retired but continued serving as an engineering consultant for a plant for a plant built in Moses Lake, WA. He and his wife later moved to Washington State.
Bob was a ham radio operator, a scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America, "SuperChicken" for the Marietta Clown Club, and had an avid interest in computers. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 122 in Washougal, the Knights of Columbus, and the Union Carbide Retirees Corp.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Fran of 58 years, sons Robert T. III of Cincinnati, OH, son William P. of Milwaukee, OR daughter Kathryn Clouse of Tri Cities, WA and Michael F. of Orlando, FL, plus five Grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 7th at 11 a.m. at St Thomas Aquinas Church, 324 NE Oak Street, Camas, WA. All attending are invited to a luncheon in the Church Hall following the service. Memorials in Bob's honor may be sent to the Cubs Scouts Troop #314.
Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
