Obituary of Algird Zolp

Algird S. Zolp (Algirdas Sylvestras Zalpis ) passed away the 24th of Sept. 2010. Born May 13th 1922 in the Chicago neighborhood of Bridgeport. Once a vibrant neighborhood of ethnic European immigrants, Algird grew up in the Lithuanian section. Algird join the Marine Corps in 1942 rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. For much of the war he was stationed on Midway Island in the Pacific. After the war he married Gailyn Emily Goheen of Oakland CA. They had one child Marshall. After the death of Gailyn Algird married Nilda Cristina Vazquez a native of Cuba. They had four children; Algird Jr., William, Lourdes and Gregory. Algird spent more than 30 years in Duarte, California where he and his wife raised their 5 children. He lived his last few years of life in Vancouver, WA near to his three sons. Besides his five children and ten grandchildren Algird is survived by one sister Dalia Ondrick of the Chicago area. A graveside service will full military honors was held on Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Fern Prairie Cemetery in Camas. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
