Mary Ella Smith Johnson passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 7, 2010 after battling Alzheimer's. Born on August 31, 1925 in West Point, Mississippi to Blakeslee and Avie Smith; Mary was 85 years old. Mary lived most of her life in Phenix City, Alabama, but resided in Camas for the last fourteen years. Mary worked for the Civil Service Finance Department at Fort Benning, Georgia before her retirement. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and most important spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her smile and positive attitude for life and the love of her family. Mary is survived by her beloved son Leslie C. Johnson, Ph.D. and daughter-in-law Marcia Johnson of Camas; sister Julia Nichols of Bakersfield, California; and grandchildren Bailey and Burke Johnson both of Camas. There will be no public services for Mary. Interment will be held in Alabama. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
