Obituary of Doris Armstrong

Doris "Queenie" Darlene (Skadsen) Armstrong peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Providence Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. Born on September 12, 1931 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Oscar and Agnes (Sorenson) Skadsen; Doris was 79 years old and the youngest of seven children. A graduate of Camas High School in 1949, Doris worked for Fred Meyer as a Merchandiser out of the Corporate Headquarters based in Portland. A former Camas resident, Doris lived the last twenty years in Gresham, and was formerly a twenty-six year resident of Portland, Oregon. She married the love of her life Thom "Wes" Armstrong on October 1, 1950 at the Camas United Methodist Church. Outside of raising her four children, Doris was an avid New York Yankees fan even traveling to New York to watch a game at Yankees Stadium. She also enjoyed playing cards, dominos, traveling all over the world, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Gresham. Most importantly to Doris was spending time with her family and friends; especially her beloved grandchildren. Doris is survived by her loving husband of sixty years Wes at home; Thom (Cheryl) Armstrong of Barstow, California, John (Elaine) Armstrong of Camas, Sheri (Doug) Swank of Camas, and Michael (Cynthia) of Portland, Oregon; brother Ralph (Joan) Skadsen of Ann Arbor, Michigan; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. There will be a Celebration of Doris' life on Wednesday, October 20th at 11:00 am at Brown's Funeral Home in Camas. Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 14th from 12:00 to 5:00 pm at Brown's Funeral Home in Camas. Vault interment will be held at the Camas Cemetery. Memorials in Doris' honor may be sent to the Portland Humane Society. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
