Elsie Helena Krause peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at her home in Camas. Born on June 17, 1920 in Cloquet, Minnesota to John and Ida (Stenlund) Lehtonen; Elsie was 90 years old. A Clark County resident for 83 years, Elsie graduated from Western Washington State College and worked as a teacher for public education. She taught in the Battle Ground School District from 1966-1979 and was a member of the National Education Association and the Washington Education Association. Outside of her work, Elsie was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Washougal. Elsie is survived by her sons Frederic Krause of Camas and Richard Krause of Burbank, Washington; sisters Hannah Oja of Brush Prairie, Washington, Irja Swanson of Vancouver, and Esther Adolfson of Vancouver; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Dexter Krause in 1986 and her beloved son Kenneth Krause who bravely died while defending his country in the Vietnam War in 1967. There will be no public services. Interment will be held at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
