Dear Vickie and Dan, Sorry to hear of the death of your dad. We pretty much lost contact with him and you with the passing of your Johnson grandparents. Mom, Mae Belle, was a cousin of your grandpa. They didn't meet until in their 20s but until your grandparents' death they remained close. Your mom was probably about eight years older than myself so she always seemed very grown up to me as I was growing up--and always seemed to have a stream of boyfriends. I remember when it began to look like your dad was "the one" your grandpa was a little reserved about the idea. He (and my dad as well) had "escaped" from farm life so he seemed at first astonished that a daugther of his would marry a dairy farmer. I remember the family dinners when your family was the first to leave because the cows needed to be taken care of. Your grandpa and my dad would exchange smug grins. They were glad they were out of it.

Dan, Vickie, I was so sorry to hear about Jim's passing. He was a great hero to me for the way that he stood with my sister through the hard years and never waivered. I first met Jim when he started to date your mother and soon after he started to come on sundays after farm cores to help us work on the house. WORK ON THE HOUSE that is what we did from 1953 to 1962 when I left home, almost every nite and every weekend. When I got my first shotgun it was because Jim gave a like new J.C. Higgens 12 ga. to my mother to give to me for my 14th birthday. Hero again!! The most remarkable thing about Jim was that when a young boy talked to him about what interested a young boy Jim listened!! now that was a first!! I'am praying that the Lord will help you through this time and that you will be made stronger through this as these are things that we all must go through as we get older and we have to show others how to weather these storms as they most assuredly will come. Do not despair, look to Jesus, seek his comfort. Remember what your father taught you by his example and follow it. May the bless you and comfort your hearts, We love you, Uncle Marlin and aunt Joyce and cousin Bill
