My sympathies to Mr. Anderson's family. I remember him well as our CHS Principal. How he kept his sanity with all of us in the class of '74 is beyond me! He will be missed by many, but remembered fondly at the same time. God bless and keep you all.

Clay was a special person for so many of us whose lives he touched in one way or another. As his family you must be so proud of him - as he was so proud of you. Our prayers are with you as you mourn - hoping you will find some comfort in the wonderful memories you have.

Clay was a mentor, a boss, a peer and a friend. I really appreciated him in each of those roles. As a mentor and boss he taught me a great deal about working with kids in the classroom. A couple of months ago I told Clay how much I liked him as a principal and appreciated his work as an educator and also that I really valued our friendship. I said I wanted him to know that since I might not see him again. He quickly responded, "Why?" as though I was moving away or something. We both laughed sadly. But he had that positive outlook. Clay's involvement with the Sister School Program has left many sad friends in Japan. Tamotsu and Sumiko Akiba have asked me to convey their condolences. They have great affection and respect for Clay and Donna and of course love Casey very much as their American daughter. Lynda and I have enjoyed our friendship with the family over the years. I really liked having Casey and Don in my class because they were good kids who grew up to be outstanding adults. Clay was a great guy who will be missed by all who knew him. Sincerely, Charlie and Lynda Hinds

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Anderson's passing. I was a student at Camas High School from 1976-1979. I will always remember the compassion and kindness he showed me during my mom's illness. Everyday, he would make an appoint to ask me how she was doing. He took the time to communicate to each and every child, and we knew his concern was genuine. He truly will be missed! Please know that he really made a difference in all of our lives!

Clay was one of those kind of friends that you must say was one of a kind. I see I am not the only one to call him a mentor. This was not because he had a vast amount of knowledge, though he did. It was because he knew how and when to share it. Clay opened my eyes to a whole world that I had no idea of. When I would say I could not do something, he would ask "Why not?" Then I could see that in fact I could. Clay was an 'out of the box' kind of thinker and taught me that skill as well. Clay also taught me about politics, both in state government and eduacation. Clay also knew EVERYONE. I met a lot of great people through him and attribute my success in my current employment to him. Clay was kind enough to share his family, Donna, Casey and Donny with me. I want you guys to know that I purchased a plant in memory of Clay for my yard. It will have blue flowers that I hope are the color of his eyes. Clay, next time around, I buy lunch.

Please know that Clay touched the lives and hearts of many people and will never be forgotten. He worked tirelessly for small schools in the Rural Education Assn., Small Schools component of the Washington Association of School Administrators, and was a strong and committed voice for children on educational legislation. So many of his contributions will likely never be detailed, because these were accomplished in one-on-one relationships with children and families. What a legacy to leave behind. We'll certainly miss this gentle man!

I worked with Clay when I was at the Educational Service District 112. I retired in 2002. Clay was such a great representative of the small school districts serving on several boards that I worked with. He was a joy to work with and helped make my job much easier. My prayers are for the family. I don't know if he was in pain, but I'm sure he's feeling great now. With deepest sympathy, Marge Cartwright

I will never forget the kindness shown to me by Clay. I was one of the few women in administration and the brunt of many jokes from some of the guys in our meetings. I appreciated his pure gentlemanly behavior. As you are aware, Clay was a very fine person and touch many people is the world of educators.

Dear Donna and family, My heart goes out to you at this time of sorrow. Clay was a wonderful friend - someone I could always talk to in high school. I always appreciated him for his friendliness and kindness. I will miss knowing he is in this world, even though we seldom saw each other after high school. There are people you always count on being there forever - Clay was one of those people. All good thoughts to you, Donna, and all your family. Love, Jill
