Its been almost 8 years since Kyle has passed away. I cannot believe it.. Kyle and I weren't that close. We meet at camp. =) I have been thinking about him a lot lately and really missing him. I remember that last time I saw him he was in the hospital at Doernbecher, a few friends from camp and I went to visit. It still seems so surreal.. I just want the family to know that I still think about him all the time, and I miss him so much!

Conny, Taylor, family and friends. Kyle's life touched so many people. He will forever live in our hearts and memories. Kyle gave of himself so willingly, yet it's not what he gave, but what he received, that was most important to Kyle. He opened his heart to Jesus and radiated Christ's love to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but I look forward to one day seeing that wonderful smile and giving him a big hug. God bless! Betty

Kyle was used of God even when he was unaware of it. I am a generation older than him but God used Kyle's life to bring me back to the arms of God... Kyle, in response to your struggles, God showed me a glimpse of the depth of His grace. I would not have seen it otherwise. God chose to show me through your trials. Through you, He showed me that if you take one step toward God that He spans the rest of the distance and encompasses you in love, mercy and grace beyond comprehension am sure that you will wear your crown of righteousness well and then cast it at the feet of Jesus our Savior. Thank you for all that you did for the Lord and us in your life. Now you are whole, in paradise, and in the presence of God. The Bible says in His presence is fullness of joy! I am grateful to you and your family beyond belief Kyle, and we will all see you some day soon!! Annette Schwerdt

Dear Cooke family, I wanted to send my deepest sympathy to you all. I didn't know Kyle personally, but I can't tell you how much your son meant to me as he has touched so many hearts and had made such an impression on my son. I believe that he showed him that in spite of his illness there wasn't anyone to blame nor to be angry. Kyle showed my son loving GOD instead of being angry at him for his illness. My son had a serious injury last year and had been so angry. Your beautiful, gifted son, Kyle showed him things happen and there isn't always a clear answer, God is always there. One night as we were driving home, my son said, mom Kyle just amazes me. I don't get it. How can he be so nice and happy? How can he not have an angry word to say about being sick or loosing his leg? You know mom he even makes jokes about his leg. I wish you could meet him, he is so cool. I really like him and he is so good at the guitar. Since then, I have never heard my son blame God for his accident or be angry. I thank Kyle. Your family is a huge inspiration to all, your son was an amazing person. His gift of love, and music shines and will forever. May God ease your pain in knowing that Kyle is an Angel of God and will be out of pain and sickness. He is in heaven now playing his guitar for all. We send our love.

Although I was merely an acquaintance with Kyle, every time I conversed with him, he was full of love and hugs and treated me as if we'd known each other for years. There's no way anyone could ever feel isolated or down when being in the same room as Kyle because his high spirits and personality automatically lifted you up. He truly is an inspiration to me and I will forever look up to him and the courage he held on a continual basis.I also respect his strong relationship he held with God. Last time I saw Kyle was at my baccalaureate practice, and I was in utter shock to hear the news, and the way he still presented himself as if nothing were wrong. His quote was, "I'm just living life day by day." That quote will forever resonate in my mind to keep my spirits as high as his were. I know he touched the lives of many students, as well as teachers and adults. My deepest condolences go out to the Cooke family. Stay strong! Reanna Weisser

I will miss him, but he will never leave my heart. I am thankful for all of the special memories I have of him, watching him doing the ropes course at Mentor camp, seeing him dance at prom, the joy on his face when he walked across the stage at graduation, watching him play guitar and even playing in the percussion group using his leg to beat the garbage can. Most of all I will always treasure the special talks he and I shared during high school. His faith and courage were such an inspiration to all of us. My love and prayers go out to you and Taylor. Conny, we met after the Good Friday service at Grace when Kyle stood up and spoke about his cancer. I'm your neighbor! I just wanted to share something with you. A few days before Kyle passed away, I looked at that billboard and said to my husband "That needs to be changed to read - Pray for Kyle Cook's family." I had a very strong feeling about it. At that time, I had no idea how sick Kyle was, or that the end of his life was so close, but I believe God spoke to me that day because rather than praying for him, I started praying for you and your family. I guess you needed the prayers more than Kyle did! Unfortunately, we were unable to attend the memorial service for him on Saturday because we were out of town. I heard there were many, many people there and that the service was wonderful. I'm sorry Kyle is no longer with you in this world, but I'm happy to know he is probably up in heaven right now singing and dancing and having a wonderful time with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was well loved by many and you raised an awesome young man. May God lift you up over and over again as you and your family get through this difficult time. May He remind you of the good times and cause you to laugh when needed. And may He draw you even closer to Him so one day you will join Kyle with our Everlasting Father. Your neighbor, Sue

To Kyle's family Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We forwarded Kyle's obituary to Bill Dendel knowing his warm feelings for Kyle from his attendance at Sacramento Jazz Camp 2002. We would like to share Bill's reply with you. "I can't tell you how sad it made me to hear of Kyle's passing. He was such an enormously positive presence at jazz camp in 2002, and an inspiration to so many other campers. There was a young woman in his band who had a malformed hand, which she took pains to hide. Kyle helped her to accept herself as she was, not by talking to her directly about it, but by being so comfortable with himself. I suspect he would have been the same whether he had experienced cancer or not. Kyle was so open and honest with everyone, and I treasure the memory of talking with him about his cancer. He told me that he believed it was a positive experience in his life, as it had taught him what was truly important, and that was to love, enjoy and care for others, and not to fear any human experience. I told him about a camper I had met several years earlier, Daniel Almich, who had also had cancer as a child. Daniel had shared the same philosophy with me, and I hoped that Kyle and Daniel might some day meet. When we arrived in Sacramento for the final camp concert that year, Daniel and his family were there, and I got to introduce Kyle and Daniel to each other. Daniel's mother and I stood nearby, eavesdropping and in tears, as these two wonderful young men instantly connected with each other and shared their feelings about their lives right in front of us. It was a moment I will never forget. Kyle was a blessing to me and Shelley, and to everyone who attended the camp in 2002. He was truly talented, not just musically, but as a loving, kind and wise human being. I will miss him terribly, but am also terribly glad that I had the good fortune to know him, if even for just one week". love, Bill Dendle
